UV?

There are a few different types of UV rays out and many of us don’t know the difference. UV light are light waves that are invisible to the human eye, and there are UVA, UVB, and UVC. UVA is divided into 1 and 2. UVA1 oxidize the melanin cells on and beneath the surface, so they give you a tan. UVA2 produces melanin in skin. The melanin is what gives your skin color. UVB rays stimulate the skin’s melanin production. It is also the primary UV ray involved with sunburns. UVC is not for tanning purposes. This ray is used for germicidal uses. If you want to avoid any UV rays, you can also try to use a UV free tan such as the Versa Spa or Custom Airbrush.

How did Tanning Start?

It’s been almost a 100 years since people have started tanning for a personal benefit.  Original, lighter skin was preferred because it was a sign of wealth, due to the fact that people did not need to work outside.  It started to become more popular when doctors discovered that sun exposure could help treat certain medical problems. Sun or UV exposure provides your skin with Vitamin D and can also with helping certain conditions like acne. The tanning opens up your pores and helps to dry out the oily surfaces. Coco Chanel was one of the first figures who was a spokesperson for tanning. “A Girl simply needs to be tanned”

Lotions Just for the Face

Just as there are tanning lotions for the body, there are ones made specifically for your face! Most facial accelerators or bronzers are specially formulated for the delicate facial area. These facial lotions are always hypoallergenic and fragrance free so you don’t have to worry about it causing any allergic reaction, or clogging your pores.  Facial tanning lotions provide the same agents in lotions for the body that help you develop a deep, gorgeous tan, only they are made specifically for the face.  Many are even packed with antioxidants to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as added vitamins and nutrients to keep your skin healthy and glowing. Some facial tanning lotions also serve multiple purposes. There are awesome ones that not only help with tanning your face, but they are also specially formulated to help clear up acne. Dual use products are always a great buy! Inquire within one of our salons today for more info about facial tanners!
