4 Steps to a Flawless Spray Tan!

Have you ever wanted to try a spray tan, but just don’t know what to do before and after? Or, have you had a spray that didn’t come out so well? Here is a step by step process that will help you get the best possible outcome for your spray tan!

Pre Care:
Step 1: Cleanse and exfoliate. To ensure the most even coverage and longest lasting tanning results, it is important that you exfoliate thoroughly prior to your appointment. Exfoliating the skin removes any layers of dry, dead skin cells, ensuring that your spray tan is applied to fresh new skin cells. It is also advisable that you wax or shave at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Avoid using deodorants, moisturizers, perfume or make-up on the day of your appointment as these can reduce the effectiveness of your spray tan.

Step 2: You want to wear suitable tanning attire to your appointment. Tanning solution solutions do not typically stain clothing, but it is best to wear loose fitting, comfortable, and dark clothing to your appointment. Any slight rub-off on your clothing should wash out easily, however light colored leather, acrylic or other sensitive fabrics may be harder to clean and therefore should not be worn to, or immediately after your appointment.

After Care:
Step 3: Once your spray tan has been applied, the tanning process now begins. The all natural tanning agent contained in the tanning solution reacts with the amino acids in the skin to create a beautifully natural tan. You should not shower for at least 8-12 hours after application and showering the next morning is the best option.  You should also avoid any of the following activities for at least 5 hours after your tanning application; saunas/spas, water, physical exercise/sweating, swimming, and tight fitting clothing.
Step 4: If you followed these instructions your spray tan should last you for up to 5 to 10 days, depending on factors such as your skin type, lifestyle, activities etc.

Regularly moisturizing twice daily will extend the overall life of your tan. Avoiding long baths, hot tubs, and extended swimming sessions will also help prolong the life of your tan as well.  Also avoid any products designed to exfoliate the skin after your tan and wait to use these products until just before your next spray tanning session!
